Student Guidelines

The following guidelines will help Zipperman Scholars understand what they have to do to be considered active in the program.

How long can I stay in the program?

A student can stay in the program for up to three (3) consecutive semesters.

I am new to the program this semester. Is there an event I am required to attend in order to stay active this semester?

All new ZipS MUST attend a "What is MIS" presentation. This event is offered at least twice a semester and it may be found on the calendar page.

What do I have to do every semester to be considered active and qualify for my stipend and/or credit?

There are three (3) types of student categories for the Zipperman program. Each category is listed below and includes requirements.

For-credit students MUST register for the class MIS295a in order to get credit. View the MIS295a syllabus here.

How do I RSVP to the Zipperman events?

Starting in fall 2018, Zipperman Scholars will RSVP for events through eSMS. Here’s how:

  1.  Use your NetID to log in:
  2.  Select “New RSVP” in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  3.  For “What type of appointment are you seeking?” choose “Workshop”, then search.
  4.  Choose events from the list.

Through the eSMS system you can view and manage your event registrations throughout the semester. Set your notification preferences in eSMS to receive text or email reminders. If you need to cancel a registration, make sure to do so at least 24 hours in advance.

How many “no-shows” can I use before I lose my $100 stipend?

A “no-show” is when you RSVP for an event but don’t show-up or cancel it within 24 hours of the event.

You can have one (1) no show. Two or more no-shows will negate your $100 stipend.

Need to cancel an event that you have already RSVP’d for? You can manage your event registrations in eSMS.

I will be applying to Eller as a double major. Anything I should know about?

As a Zipperman Scholar, you can apply for a double major upon admission to the Professional Program (as long as one of the majors is MIS).  ZipS are the only students in Eller who have the opportunity to double major from the get-go!!  If you are applying this semester, send Patti Ota an email ( so she can give your name to the Undergraduate office.
