Step 2: Earn a Project Scholarship

Successfully complete a diversity related project & earn a $50 or $150 scholarship.

MIS Leading Diversity logoProject scholarships are opportunities to enrich your resume, broaden your skills, help you stand out among a crowd, and introduce yourself to a company and their management.

Several scholarships of $50 - $150 are available.

While the projects may take time for you to prepare and execute, your time at the company should not exceed one-half to one day.


Scholarship Requirements

Project guidelines

  • FIRST: Propose your project idea by completing the project application form below.
  • SECOND: Upon project idea acceptance by Dr. Leroy, complete your project.
  • You can work individually or in pairs. 


    • For the $50 scholarship:
      • Choose an important issue related to diversity in the business/research world.
      • Prepare a 3-5 minute YouTube video describing the issue. Your video should:
        • describe the issue (e.g., diversity in management teams),
        • why it is important (e.g., because diverse teams make better decisions),
        • provide background data (e.g., find data and present it in the video), and
        • briefly acknowledge the funding source (Panhuise Family Foundation).
        • You may add other components and make it as fun, interactive or novel as you like.

    • For $150 scholarship:
      • Choose an important issue related to diversity in the business/research world.
      • Find a company or organization to educate about your issue (e.g., give a presentation) or to help conquer a diversity problem (e.g., review job ads)
      • Have a company official email Dr. Leroy to verify completion of your project.
      • Prepare a 3-5 minute YouTube video describing your experience.

    • Receive $50 or $150 in your bursar account after the guidelines above are completed.

    • Videos will be posted on the MIS website, become part of our diversity library and shown to industry people. You will be famous. Plus, you can link to them from your own resume!

Project examples

  • Review a company’s job announcements for gender and minority neutrality. Suggest improvements.
  • Review a company’s resume review process for gender and minority neutrality (or active encouragement). Suggest improvements.
  • Provide a lecture to the company’s management on unconscious bias.
  • Provide a lecture to the company’s management on the Glass Ceiling.
  • Design and distribute a handout with negotiation skills for women and minorities.
  • Additional different topics are encouraged.
