Nidhi AroraNidhi Arora
Walmart, Information Systems Department (ISD), International Team, Bentonville, AR

"My group works on international budgets, control, planning, and allocation. We will also work with the team that develops the IT translational software. My role is to primarily work on the translational side. I am still learning what I will be doing for the summer - but I know that I will be figuring out the feasibility of upgrading the translational systems. At first I didn't think it was cool but after learning about some of the project details, I am really excited to sink my teeth into it. I have a good feeling that I can meet and exceed their expectations and leave my mark here. There is no doubt that I will have learned a lot by the time I leave."

Bradley MorenoBradley Moreno
Marathon Oil Company, Information Delivery Intern, Houston, TX

"This summer I am interning with Marathon Oil Corporation, on the Information Delivery team in Houston, TX. On this team it is our job to provide the production teams accurate and efficient data through various applications. This summer I was able to assist and be part of an important time in the company’s history, when they split Marathon into two independent energy companies:
Marathon Oil Corporation and Marathon Petroleum Corporation on July 1st.

Before the split I was involved in projects such as (1) running testing company on PI 2 PI servers, filtering application directories and creating an application security policy. (2) Rationalizing software licensing agreements for a specific application which will save the company thousands of dollars. (3) Working with an outsource company and leading a project to develop a visual dashboard with Operational and HES KPI’s for our WY asset. For this project it was my job to determine where all the needed data was located and present the information and provide detailed documentation to the vendor with queries connections etc. In addition, I worked with this same vendor in making multiple improvements on our Digital Oilfield webpage.

Furthermore, I have currently been working with an application called PI ProcessBook where I have been creating visual RT Webparts pages for our Cody, WY asset. These pages include graphics as well as real-time data, which is as fast as data taken from 5-10 min before.

When I am not working on all these IT related things we also are assigned groups with people from all different departments where we work together on an assigned research topic and will present on it to the CEO and other executives at the end of the summer with our teams recommendations. Moreover, I am responsible for my own end of the summer presentation on the impacts I have made. When I am not at work I have also been able to enjoy Texas with many of my peers on intern field trips, philanthropic events and other various activities."

Allison Stein
The Boeing Company, Supplier Management, Cost Accounting Intern, Seattle, WA

" I am working as a cost accounting intern this summer for Boeing's Commercial Airlines division. What my department does is take accumulated costs from both established and developing airline programs' suppliers and allocate them among the various programs and departments. Each account requires an understanding of the function and use of the part on each specific airplane or airline program. My function is to allocate additional cost accumulated from non-recurring programs such as the Boeing Sky Interior and a new Boeing program that focuses on increased fuel efficiency for the 737 to the various departments within the 737 program which are accumulating that cost.

I also do basic accounting work like reconciling general ledgers for the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, as well as analyzing and reworking office procedures to increase efficiency in my department.

Boeing is an amazing company to work for and has afforded me so many opportunities. Working for such a large company really opens your eyes to all the different opportunities out there, but the best part of the internship is getting to tour the various factories and watch airplanes being built on massive production lines."

Kari Ann Shulby
Acxiom Corporation, Strategic Programs and Enablement, New York, NY

"I am currently interning for Acxiom Corporation. I am working on strategic programs and enablement. More specifically, I support key training and enablement initiatives and processes. I collaborate with the Marketing and Client Organization teams and senior leaders to research forward looking training content and channels and manage projects associated with the launch of internal ‘social’ training sites. I take loosely defined curriculum objectives and draft into easy-to-understand creative briefs; then, help to manage the execution. My role will be a completely integrated ‘right-hand’ to the Marketing Executive/Managing Director.

I love what I am working on and I love that by the end of the summer I can go online and actually see the work that I have done. This internship has given me a completely different way of approaching problems. My thought process has already grown.

Also, the internship is located in NYC. Living the city on my own is an exerience in and of itself which makes me learn new things everytime I walk out my building! I couldn't ask for a better summer!"

Jake Thompson
Target.com, Fullfillment Center, Tucson AZ

"I'm an intern at the Target.com Fulfillment Center (FC) in Tucson. The FC's place within the Target supply chain is as a receiver of vendor products and distributor of products to Target.com customers. As such, it holds a very unique place within the supply chain.

This facility is actually a prototype building, one-of-a-kind in the Target Corporation.  It began operations just over two years ago, and as such, there are many issues that have yet to be worked out with efficiency and operations. This means that I am not just learning how processes work, but taking an active role in shaping them.

It's a really exciting position, and I'm having a great time getting to know the Target culture and my coworkers at the FC. I'm really benefiting from this experience, both employment-wise and as a whole person. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity, and I can't wait to see where it takes me!"

Oracle Inc., Advanced Customer Services, Sales Enablement Team, Denver, CO

"I'm working with Oracle Inc., Advanced Customer Services, Sales Enablement Team in Denver, CO.

Advanced Customer Services provides premium support offerings to companies using Oracle products which have large or complex IT needs.

This summer, I will be working on several competitive intelligence and strategy projects for the Sales Enablement Team.  My first project is to analyze the premium support offerings of Oracle's largest competitors and to determine how Oracle's premium support stacks up in terms of actual support offerings, marketing, and pricing.  I will then apply my understanding of MIS and IT strategy to recommend marketing techniques to ACS salespeople and to suggest changes to product mixes.

My second project will be to gather intelligence on some of the biggest pain points for IT organizations in various industries and determine what new initiatives/trends are being used in the industry to address these challenges.  I will then interpret my findings to senior executives."
