The Hottest Job Field in IT Available
According to a Federal Trade Commission survey, an estimated 8.3 million Americans discovered that they were the victims of some form of identity theft in 2006. Businesses are increasingly concerned about how to ensure that consumer information is secure.
Now graduate students at the Eller College have the opportunity to meet the marketplace need for professionals with IT security savvy by acquiring Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) certifications through their coursework offered by the MIS Department.
"Information Assurance and Security certifications are mandated by many areas in the Government and the Department of Defense. These same certification requirements are becoming more important to corporate leaders charged with protecting the security of their data,” explained Eller College IT director Lance Hoopes. “Eller College graduate students who complete CNSS certified courses will be better equipped to identify IT threats, and more skilled at the analysis and management of risks.”
“These CNSS certificates are an important first step in establishing the MIS department as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance,” said Nunamaker. “Acquiring this status ensures that the College is sending executives to the marketplace who have a better understanding of the threats and risks to information systems.”
Two MIS courses qualify for CNSS certificates. They are MIS 515 ("Information Security in Public and Private Sectors") and MIS 516 ("Privacy, Security and Business Continuity"). Both of these classes are taught as "live - on campus" courses.
Upon successful completion of MIS 515 (Information Security in Public and Private Sectors) students will qualify for two certifications:
-
Information Systems Security Professionals, NSTISSI (National Security Telecommunications and Information Systems Security Instruction) No. 4011
-
Senior Systems Managers, CNSS No. 4012
Upon successful completion of MIS 516 (Privacy, Information Security and Risk Analysis) students will qualify for Risk Analysts, CNSSI No. 4016, Entry Level
These CNSS course certifications will be valid for the Eller MIS department through June 2013.
