Global Dual Degree Program - KAIST

UA MS MIS Program in Collaboration with KAIST.

The University of Arizona's (UA) MIS Department is offering a special track of its MS MIS program in collaboration with the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). Please note that multiple formats of collaboration are being explored (including starting in either Summer or Fall semester with different tuition structures and study plans). This webpage presents one agreed-upon collaboration format that has already been approved by UA and KAIST with its inauguration in Summer 2011. Please visit this webpage later for other collaboration formats and alternatives.

Overview

The UA MIS department is nationally-ranked (5th by U.S. News & World Report), housing a world-class faculty and high-impact funded research projects. In collaboration with the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a first-class research university in Asia, the UA MIS department will offer this special track of its MS MIS program, aiming at serving students who want to pursue a career in IT services.

Given the MIS department’s world-wide reputation in research and the KAIST College of Business’s existing program success in Korea, this special track will provide an exciting educational and professional experience for students motivated to tackle increasingly complex information system (IS) challenges and issues in the booming services sector.

Study Plan

The students entering this program will complete at least the two semesters of the requirements of the KAIST business graduate program first. They will then enroll in the UA MS MIS program to complete the UA portion.

Participating Programs from KAIST include:

  • Techno MBA
  • IMBA
  • Information & Media MBA
  • Management Engineering MS

UA requires the students complete a 32-credit study plan (identical to that of UA’s regular MS MIS program).

Twelve (12) credits (with a grade of "A" or "B") will be transferred from the KAIST programs and the remaining 20 credits will be earned through courses and projects offered in Tucson, Arizona, US. These 12 transfer credits will cover 2 required UA MS MIS courses (MIS 543 and MIS 531), and 2 electives. The following table summarizes the KAIST courses viewed as equivalences to these UA MS MIS courses.

Since Techno-MBA and IMBA do not have equivalent courses for UA's MIS 543, the listed courses – IM553 and IM554, BA561 or BA563 taken at KAIST's other programs by Techno-MBA and IMBA students shall be equally accounted as the KAIST-MIS transfer credits.

To further note, IM courses are 1.5 credits while BA courses are 3 credits, and hence two IM courses are equivalent to UA's MIS 543.

The 6 credits of MIS equivalent electives subject to credit transfer include all of KAIST College of Business courses.

Sample Summer program study plans are as follows.
