2012 Information Systems Summer Internship

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Headquartered in Torrance in Southern California, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. (TMS) was established in 1957 and is the U.S. sales, marketing, and distribution arm that oversees operations in 49 states for Toyota, Scion and Lexus products.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This internship places the candidate in TMS's Information Systems (IS) Division. The internship provides opportunities to develop skills and gain exposure to various areas and systems within IS. Successful IS interns demonstrate the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse group, are strong and influential communicators, are effective at

managing multiple projects/assignments and show initiative by proactively seeking information, feedback, etc.

IT Groups Supporting Toyota Systems

TMS IS works to strengthen IS and business unit alignment with customer-facing departments servicing the Automotive, Customer Services, Business Support and Dealer, Field & Affiliate areas of the company. The IS intern collaborates and partners with IS colleagues, Toyota business units and stakeholders to collect business and system requirements and objectives. The IS intern also gains exposure in planning, implementing, and supporting systems, including various phases of the systems life cycle.

The IS intern could be placed in any of the following groups:

EnterpriseArchitecture - The TMS IS Enterprise Architecture group works diligently to ensure that business strategy and IS investments are aligned by establishing, managing and refreshing technology policies and standards. The IS intern begins to gain an appreciation of the complexity of Enterprise Architecture and its potential impacts on the projects and systems within the customer-facing IS departments.

EnterpriseServices - The TMS IS ES team is responsible for defining, delivering, and sustaining infrastructure solutions for TMS. Within Enterprise Services, the Network Team services all of the Voice, Data, and Video technology at TMS. The IS intern will gain exposure to network equipment and to the ITIL process, and experience with VOIP networking platforms.

Enterprise Information Security & Privacy - The IS intern will gain an understanding of the evolving role of the Information Security function through development and enhancement of TMS Information Security policies and practices, product management of Information Security technology solutions, information risk management, and security audit and compliance

Office of the CIO-The OCIO provides Governance, Strategy, Portfolio Management, Project Management Office, IS Communications, Finance, Asset Management, and Resource Management services. The IS intern gains exposure to overall IS Strategy approach and how to run IT as a business.

TYPICAL CAREER PATH

At the end if the internship, interns may have the opportunity to interview for the Information Systems Trainee (IST) Program. The typical career paths are as follows:

Technical: IST --> IT Analyst --> Senior IT Analyst --> Engineer

Business: IST --> Analyst --> Senior Analyst --> Business Manager

Qualifications

Candidates should possess the following:

  • Pursuing BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics or related degrees
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Past internship or related job experience/coursework a plus
  • GPA of 3.0+
