Sudha Ram Develops New BI + Social Media Course for Fall
Dr. Sudha Ram is offering a new course this fall titled "Business Intelligence: Web and Social Media Analytics."
The course will provide students the opportunity to learn about Business Intelligence (BI) theory and combine it with powerful social media tools to gain insights into the emerging social media phenomena.
This will be the first of its kind course offered on UA campus!
This interdisciplinary course is open to any freshmen, sophomore or junior from any UA department or College including Eller, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, and/or Family & Consumer Sciences.
By using analytical techniques students will learn how to apply their newly acquired skills to traverse through large amounts of data and provide actionable business insights. Hands-on learning experience will include completing two projects.
Project 1: Using Google AdWords and Google Analytics, students will implement an online marketing campaign for a local business. Each team will receive $200 to run their campaign. They will present their findings and recommendations to their client at the end of the course.
Project 2: Students will learn to use Social network analysis (SNA) techniques to map and measure relationships and flows between people, groups, organizations, computers, URLs, etc.
Students will use the popular software package GEPHI to visualize and analyze networks constructed from data gathered.
