Since last year's MIS Alumni Homecoming events were such a success -- we have decided to have them again this year!
Research Presentation
Time: 10:00 am
Location: McClelland Hall, Room 208
Presentation title: "Big Data Analytics and Its Applications in Security and Health"
Presenter: Dr. Hsinchun Chen, McClelland Professor of Management Information Systems and Director, Artificial Intelligence Lab, The University of Arizona
Hsinchun's presentation will be a part of the University's Homecoming 2012 Collegiate and Campus Showcase which celebrates excellence at the University of Arizona. The presentation will be open to all who are interested in this topic.
Presentation description: Big Data can be thought of as data so voluminous that it cannot be wrangled into our traditional "relational" databases. “Analytics” are the techniques that reveal the patterns and complex relationships hidden inside the data. The fusion of the two – Big Data Analytics – is poised to revolutionize our healthcare industry and our security sector, if we can overcome the challenges to take advantage of the opportunities offered. In the security sector, big data analytics can help us secure our cyber space, face down crime, and curtail terrorism. In healthcare, we can look forward to dramatic improvements in patient care, quality management, cost containment, and patient empowerment. The challenges lie in the variety and velocity of the data, and our underdeveloped ability to store, organize, and analyze the deluge created by the quintillions of bytes generated every day. This talk will address the University of Arizona Artificial Intelligence Lab’s explorations in developing scalable, practical, real-world analytics with the potential for big societal impact.
